Last night I was very saddened to learn that Spencer Bennett, the founder of Michael Spencer shirts passed away earlier this April. I was only a customer of his, I never knew him personally. I can say as a customer he was warm, kind and helpful. When I reached out to him with a question regarding ordering or sizing, he helped personally and warmly. When they ceased operations due to the onset of the pandemic early in 2020, I was anxiously waiting to order once they were up and running again.
The shirts he made for me are among my favorites. In addition to being a warm and personable shirt maker, his shirts were incredible. Beautiful roll, hearty fabric, perfect sizing, unique gathering pattern at the cuff. Again, I never knew him personally, I was only a customer, but his warmth, earnestness and kindness in helping me as a customer was obvious and didn't go unnoticed.
In a cynical, cold and throwaway world, his approach and attitude resonated with me. A breath of fresh air. Today I am wearing my purple university stripe OCBD from Michael Spencer, one of my favorites. May he rest in eternal peace.
